Made this for the School of Art Open House Art Sale. No one liked it enough to buy it. :(

Meant to make three more of these, one for each element. The Phoenix represents fire, obviously. Anyway, feeling a little depressed about it so maybe I'll write more about it later.

Pen, ink and colored pencil on Arches 90lbs. cold press. ~4-5 hours

This piece now lives with ~ClearSkySuite

This is beautiful. It reminds me of Grateful Dead concert posters from the later 60's and 70's. Just out of curiosity, what were you charging for it?

Ohh man, I really think this is just beautiful. I love the swirls following the phoenix, it looks so smokey and gorgeous. Was that heart at the end of the tail intentional? Hmm. I was just thinking.. maybe if you colored the whispies behind the phoenix a deep violet, it might stand out more. Anyway, I love it. You did an amazing job and it's a shame no one purchased it.

Well, I didn't really get a chance to do any pricing research so I was asking for $25. I didn't think it was that much, just considering the amount of time I spent on it. Thanks for your comments!

Yeah, violet might've been a good idea. Actually, part of the reason the phoenix in my Phoenix painting stands out so well is that I mixed a lot of blue into the black paint. The heart is intentional, as are a number of possibly familliar pacific northwest indian motifs.
